Actions, not words, are the true criterion of the attachment of friends. George Washington, 1732-1799, 1st President of the United States
Is Teen Online Dating Ever Safe?
Any type of dating is potentially dangerous, especially online dating and even more particularly, teen online dating. There are many predators out there in the online world just waiting to prey on unsuspecting young people, and it is important for parents and teens alike to understand the potential dangers that await them online. It is very easy for people to fall for someone that they have been chatting with online, and the same can be true for teen online dating. There are a lot of online teen dating sites on the Internet; some are free and others require payment, but there are still a lot of choices out there and finding a reputable site can be overwhelming.
It is important that a person understands that there is no guarantee that the individual he or she is regularly chatting with is telling the complete truth. There are adults on most of these sites that pretend to be teens in order to take advantage of a nave teenager. Although there are many genuine teens looking for partners on these sites, there is still no way to know if they are really who they claim to be, and extreme caution must be taken, especially if an actual date is planned. The picture on someones profile is not necessarily up to date or may not even be of the right person. It is very easy to give misleading information online and people need to remember that the only proof of a persons appearance will occur once the couple meets face to face.
Basic Tips on Protecting Teens When Dating Online
Parents need to make a conscious effort to protect their teens that are using the Internet. The parents need to make the teens aware of the dangers in talking to strangers online, and they should make sure that they know where their teen is at all times. It is too easy for a teenager to meet someone on an online teen dating site and agree to meet, only to find that the person is not as young or good looking as he claimed. Parents should be aware of the people that their teens come in contact with regularly online, especially if the teen begins dating online. Sometimes it can be hard to prevent a teenager from falling for someone online, but steps can be taken to guarantee the safety of the teen. If the potential partner is genuine, he will not be concerned if the parents drop their teen off at the meeting place and check the stranger out.
Teens should always have phone contact before meeting up with anyone. If they really want to meet up with someone from a teen online dating site, the parents should know the location and preferably attend the first meeting with their son or daughter.
Before the meeting, the teen should make telephone contact with the person and never give out their home address. After the meeting, the teen should be collected to make sure he or she is not followed home. Your teen should never be alone with the stranger, even if the person appears to have been telling the truth about themselves. In cases of harassment or stalking, there are organizations that are designed to help with specific cases like this. If a parent is suspicious of the person who is meeting up with their teen, then they should definitely contact the police and keep a close eye on their teen in future.
Mormon History: LDS (Mormon) Prophet Howard W. Hunter 1/3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3Zsvml57PE is a video describing how to learn more about the Mormon Church.
Howard W. Hunter was born on November 14, 1907, in Boise, Idaho. His father was not a member of the Church, and when Howard wanted to be baptized at age eight, his father forbade it. He finally persuaded his father to let him be baptized when he was twelve years old. At fifteen he earned his Eagle Scout, he was only the second scout in Boise to earn this award. Hunter also excelled in music and learned to play the piano, violin, marimba, drums, saxophone, clarinet and trumpet. After high school, a band he had formed was able to play on a cruise ship during a two-month tour of the Orient. When he returned he learned that his father had finally joined the Church.
On June 10, 1931, Howard W. Hunter married Clara Jeffs, a young lady he had been dating for some time. They had three children, one of whom died in childhood. Soon after their marriage, Howard found a job working for the Los Angeles Flood Control District. It was in this job that he became interested in legal matters and decided to study law. He graduated with his law degree in 1939 and was admitted to the bar the same year.
On Hunter's 46th birthday his parents surprised him by showing up at the Mesa Arizona Temple ready to be sealed to each other and him, along with his sister, who had also made the trip. This was a pleasant surprise for President Hunterhe and the members of the Pasadena California Stake over which he presided had traveled quite a distance in order to attend the temple in Mesa. The Los Angeles California Temple would open three years later in 1956, also during his tenure as stake president.
n 1940, Howard W. Hunter started his own private law practice. A year later, he became bishop of his ward; he served in that position for eight years. Two years after his release from that calling, he was called to be stake president and served in that calling for nine years. During that time he helped in the building of the Los Angeles Temple, and helped start the early-morning seminary program in the area.
In 1959, Howard W. Hunter went to Salt Lake City to attend general conference, and while there he was called to have an interview with President David O. McKay. When he arrived for the interview, President McKay immediately began, "The Lord has spoken. You are called to be one of his special witnesses, and tomorrow you will be sustained as a member of the Council of the Twelve" (Eleanor Knowles, Howard W. Hunter, p.144). Hunter was stunned, but accepted the call and was ordained on October 15, 1959.
From 1964 to 1972, Howard W. Hunter served as the President of the Genealogical Society of Utah and oversaw the first uploads of records to computers. In 1970 he was called to be the Church Historian. In 1989, Elder Hunter was called to be the President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, and on May 30, 1994, was sustained as the Prophet and President of the Church. Of his calling President Hunter said, "I have shed many tears and have sought my Father in Heaven in earnest prayer with a desire to be equal to the high and holy calling which is now mine" (LDS Church News, "I Pledge My Life and ... Full Measure of My Soul," June 11, 1994). He encouraged all members to become temple worthy, heralding the huge temple-building program of his successor, Gordon B. Hinckley. Howard W. Hunter served for only nine months until his death on March 3, 1995.

In addition, there should be transparency between the teenager and the parent or guardian. While each one offers basically the same type of service there are differences, some subtle and some not, that can make your search easier. The quick and easy way can have you up and in business in a matter of a few days. |
